What is FWGP?

The Freelance Writers’ Guild of the Philippines (FWGP) is a legitimate workers’ association recognized by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). Its mission is to protect the welfare of Filipino freelance writers and support the professional development of its members.

It will soon become an affiliate of UNI Global Union-Philippine Liaison Council (UNI-PLC), one of the country’s trade union centers.

Who Can Apply to Join?

  • All Filipino freelance writers with a minimum of three (3) years of professional writing experience.
  • Those who have previously applied but were not able to complete their application are welcome to re-apply.

How to Apply for Membership

After watching the FWGP Virtual Kumustahan, fill out the application form and submit the requirements. Then, wait for the announcement of new members some time in October.

Applications will be accepted until October 4, 2021, 5:00 p.m.
Late and incomplete submissions will not be processed.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

All Filipino freelance writers who have at least three (3) years of professional writing experience.

  • One who works on a self-employed basis (no employee/employer relationship), doing paid freelance writing work for one or several entities in the last three (3) consecutive years;
  • One who does paid freelance writing work on the side for one or several entities, along with a project-based work in writing or non-writing fields/industries in the last three (3) consecutive years; (The benefits and protection provided by the Guild are for his/her practice as a freelance writer.)
  • One who does paid freelance writing work on the side for one or several entities, along with formal employment in writing or non-writing fields/industries in the last three (3) consecutive years; (The benefits and protection provided by the Guild are for his/her practice as a freelance writer.)
  • Members may come from the print, electronic, and/or digital fields, as well as from radio, film, and television. They may include freelance researchers, translators, indexers, scriptwriters, web copywriters, editors, bloggers, SEO (search engine optimization) writers, technical writers, documenters, news writers, feature writers, columnists, magazine writers, catalog description writers, corporate copywriters, copywriters, grant writers, non-profit writers, ghostwriters, speechwriters, business plan writers, literary writers, press release writers, e-book writers, legal writers, instructional and textbook writers, creative/literary writers, among others.
  • You must watch the FWGP Virtual Kumustahan.
  • Fill out the FWGP Membership Application Form.
  • A copy of one (1) government-issue ID with photo
  • Links to or copies of three (3) articles or other work samples
  • Two (2) reference letters from writing mentors or previous employers (if from non-writing industry)

The video contains important information about the Guild that will help applicants to know and understand what they are signing up for. It includes information on the importance of organizing freelance writers, the benefits of becoming a Guild member, and as a bonus, some writing and financial preparedness tips for freelance writers.

We accept applications with a minimum of three (3) years of experience for this call, but join the Facebook Group and wait for our announcement when we open a program for writers with less than the required years of experience.
